Born in Oregon, but proud of my Mexican roots. As a first-generation Mexican-American, I get to live the best of both worlds. Enjoying my cultural traditions and heritage, while also embracing opportunities of my birthplace. As I forged my path through academia and continued to develop into my own person and grow within my identity, I overcame obstacles and barriers that many Latinas have experienced before. Sin embargo, quiero poner mi granito de arena, so that Latinas who come after me have less obstacles to overcome.
I wouldn’t be where I am without my incredible support system — beginning with my family and friends. I also have the honor of being a Ford Family Scholar. Participation in the scholar program, along with incredible mentors have especially aided me in carving out this path in my academic, professional and personal ventures.
Currently as a full-time community health worker trainer I am not pursuing anything academically, but my interests lie in community health, social equity, prevention science, and early childhood learning. Please connect with me if you are interested in collaborating on a project pertaining to the topics I have listed.
